This prop was originally built in June 2000 by Code 1 in California. It was built with a lightweight wood underbody to permit for hanging display purposes. The body is a full fiberglass construction painted silver to look like a DeLorean (at 30+ feet away). Although the BTTF parts on the rear are pretty decent, the prop definitely needed some work to make it look more presentable and maintain stability. Work done so far has included removing all inexpensive, cheap components that will be replaced by original DeLorean parts (grille, tail lights, and headlights). A new steel frame is being built for body and underbody support.

Whenever you get something that needs to be improved upon, the best thing to do is strip it down and rebuild it, which is exactly what I did for the BTTF prop car. The finish of the car was really dirty and scratched up, paint peeling, etc. With all the components off the car, I started reworking the frame of the vehicle since it was really flimsy. Most of the original wooden underbody structure was replaced by a partial DeLorean fiberglass underbody that was removed/trimmed down from an engine fire car. I began putting together the hover conversion wheels, and painting the exterior of the car and windows.

Stage 3 was the rebuild with new and improved parts. I installed a factory grill with DMC emblem and the proper headlamps. Underneath the car flying lights were installed. The time circuit parts on the rear of the car were all mounted in a secure fashion, cleaned, repainted, and just generally organized in a better fashion than when I bought the original car. The wheels can be seen in both hover mode and street drive mode on the trailer after the Pigeon Forge show. The car also came home with some signatures from the BTTF stars at the car show, adding an extra amount of coolness to this already very fun car. :)
